Not that anyone should just blindly trust any lawyer. I shared this with a classmate, and they actually think I’m crazy because I said the obvious goal of the amendment was to make getting an abortion — for all women — as difficult as possible. That I blame more on stupid ideology.

I think that the vast amount of misinformation about this, and how some places are totally glossing over the Stupak Amendment, is big evidence of our shitty media. I mean, this isn’t even a hard legal document. There’s no vague praises, references to legal precedents or doctrines, or anything that really needs more than a passing knowledge of federal documents or decent reading comprehension to puzzle out. I’m frankly, appalled that anyone reports on this without linking to the text. So lazy.

He’s a nice guy! He respects women! Sure he’s “pro-life” but it’s not because he wants to control women or anything! He doesn’t hate women, this isn’t an anti-woman piece of legislation. This amendment won’t take away abortion coverage for anyone! It’ll just maintain the “no federal dollars for abortion funding” dealio. No biggie! It’s no worse than the Hyde amendment. No one is losing out here! And don’t listen to NARAL or NOW because they are prejudiced and aren’t interpreting the bill correctly. And really, if you are going to oppose health care for all because of this, that is so wrong because you will deny insurance coverage to millions of people and that is just wrong! And really the pro-choice movement hasn’t done enough and that’s why we are losing……….

And on and on. I keep telling her she is wrong and she refuses to listen. She says she’s pro-choice, but if that’s pro-choice, well, no wonder we are losing this battle! Seriously it’s driving me nutso. She works for him- she is supposed to know exactly what this legislation will do, and she is just buying the party line.

I am SO fucking sick of religion having ANYTHING to do with our government. It all just sickens me.

Of course, erectile dysfunction is on the list of things that will continued to be covered by insurance. So while you can get boners with medical assistance you can’t prevent pregnancy, end pregnancy, check if you can get pregnant, protect your ability to get pregnant, or protect yourself from abuse even if not pregnant. In short, the state thinks that funding a man’s right to have a sufficiently manly boner with the people’s taxes is totally more important than providing vital medical care to people with vaginas.

Aside from the abortifacient (hormonal) contraception and abortion de-funding, it is pretty disturbing that they cover Viagra, but not domestic violence screening and counseling.

I also have horrible motion sickness, and an aversion to douchey male leads. So while I do like some horror movies, and some mockumentary-style movies (I loved “District 9,” for example, and also “This Is Spinal Tap,” “Best in Show” et al., and “Confederate States of America”), I think I’ll give this one a miss.
